The Transition Year Programme is conducted according to the Department of Education’s 1993 Guidelines. It is designed to cater for the students’ personal and social development with particular emphasis on increasing maturity and self-confidence.
Core subjects e.g. English, Irish, Maths, French, German etc. are essential elements of the Transition Year. Students’ development is encouraged through sport, the arts, social action, critical thinking, various skills and teamwork.
Research has shown that those students who participate fully in Transition Year generally perform better in the Leaving Certificate and have less difficulty with the independent learning style required in third level institutions.
