Starring two of our own Mercy girls Ciara Cooney and Adele Crilly, The Plough and the Stars is the story of ordinary lives ripped apart by the idealism of the Easter Rising. The residents of a Dublin tenement shelter tell the story of the violence that sweeps through the city’s streets – a revolution that will shape the country’s future rages around them.

The play celebrates the courage and endurance of these men and women and their great resilience to survive. With its wonderful comic elements, colourful characters and strong women, The Plough and the Stars is regarded as a masterpiece and an essential part of our understanding of 1916.
