Home School Community Liaison (HSCL)
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Here at St Joseph’s Mercy Secondary School, we like to work together to help your child develop to their full potential and we welcome your involvement in the school.
My name is Melissa Dowd and I have recently been appointed as Home School Community Liaison Coordinator. We are excited to be allocated this position in our school for the first time.
My role is to act as a bridge between home and school. The HSCL Scheme is designed to improve the outcomes of our students through creating a partnership between parents/guardians, the local community and school. I can provide support to you through Home Visits, Parent courses and activities (recreational and educational), and by offering information on other family supports available in the local area.
Visiting parents and guardians in their homes
As part of my work, I may get the opportunity to meet some of you during home visits, where I can listen, offer advice, and provide information about the school, including courses in the school and services in the community.
My role is to support you and to help create and maintain positive relationships between our school and the families of our students. If I plan to call, I will contact you by phone call or text before I drop by.
Organising courses and talks for parents in the school
I hope to organise parent courses and activities (recreational and educational). These courses and activities not only help parents learn new skills but also recognise the importance of parents having time to chat amongst themselves. Through these courses and activities, we hope parents/guardians will feel welcome in our school, get to know other parents/guardians, learn new skills and feel more confident in supporting their children’s education.
Looking forward to meeting you.
Yours sincerely,
Melissa
